When we were asked to redesign the NEȾOLṈEW̱ brand, we had a lot of big ideas. Indigenous language revitalization is an exciting and evolving field, and it was interesting to work with a group that also emphasizes adult language learners. However, this project turned out to be a good lesson in honouring what came before, in that they wanted to update their existing logo and branding, but still honour the design and name for the initiative which was gifted them by the W̱SÁNEĆ Community. The end result is an updated take on the original but done in a good way.
NEȾOLṈEW̱ is a national collaborative research network based out of the University of Victoria. Along with their partners, they aim to revitalize Indigenous languages through the offering of resources, programs and initiatives to maintain and strengthen efforts related to Indigenous language conservation. NEȾOLṈEW̱’s engaging approach brings language learners out of isolation and into an environment that promotes both learning and contribution.
